Wow! September sure flew by. As we embrace spirit week and anticipate the homecoming game and festivities over the next couple of days, I wanted to give a recap on the many accomplishments of Fall Sports thus far.
Let’s first start with Girls Golf. This past Monday (10/2) they won the Downriver League Championship for the 3rd year in a row. Quite an accomplishment. The ladies were 8-1 in league play and will continue on to Regional play next week at Pine Lake Golf Course in Ypsilanti. Congratulations on a fine season and best of luck over the next couple of weeks.
Boys and Girls Cross Country have run a competitive season first starting as the host of the inaugural Watermelon Run which tool place in Elizabeth Park this past August. The event was a huge success and helped kick of the year for all runners. The teams have competed in multiple jamborees including traveling to East Lansing for the MSU invite on September 15th. The Downriver League Cross Country League Meet is being held at Wyandotte Shores Golf Course on Thursday October 19th. Boys run at 3:30pm and Girls run at 4:30pm
The Boys Tennis team is riding a hot streak and once again looks to challenge for league supremacy by the end of the season. A 2nd place finish at the Grosse Ile Invite, as well as a current league standing of 8-0 help better illustrate the success they have had. Regional’s will be played at THS on Thursday October 12th. Come on out and cheer the boys on!
The Boys Soccer record of (4-5-1) does not best illustrate how hard the boys have competed this season. Multiple games have by decided by one goal and the team continues to play with heart. The Trojans last home game is tonight (10/4) against Melvindale. It is Senior Night, and I’m sure the boys will put on a good show.
Boys Football is (3-3) on the season, and welcomes the Warriors of Woodhaven this coming Friday. It’s exciting to face a rival on homecoming night. Trenton and Woodhaven always play each other tough, and Woodhaven brings a nice crowd that compliments the atmosphere. It should be an exciting game to watch,
The Girls Swim team just came off their First Downriver Classic Title this past Saturday at Allen Park. This event was formally known as the News Herald Meet, which is comprised of 6 Downriver League schools, and 3 Huron League schools at the annual event. The THS Girls Swim team have won 28 of the last 37 such meets. Multiple state cuts in relay and individual events have highlighted this exciting season. The ladies will swim in League Finals at Woodhaven H.S. on Thursday November 2nd, and Friday November 3rd. Prelims and Finals both begin at 5pm on those days.
Congratulations to the Girls Volleyball team as they currently sit in 1st place in the league with an impressive mark of 9-0. The second half of the season begins next week, and should provide an exciting finish to the season. District play begins Monday October 30th at Woodhaven, where the team will play Southgate at 5pm. Come out and show the ladies your support!!
It is a great time to be a Trojan and support our student athletes. The Trojan Pit has been well represented this season and continues to grow. As always, our community support for athletics drives our students towards success. We enjoy and encourage everyone to come out and support the Trojans. If you haven’t gotten an athletic pass yet, you can still get them in the athletic office.
I anticipate a strong finish to the fall season, and I encourage everyone to come out and support their teams from Trenton.
Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you at our events.
Yours in sport,
