One of the best parts of Trenton High School swimming are the traditions. From midnight swim for the girls to the spaghetti dinner where the boys shave their heads, there is no shortage of events and activities that decades of Trojans have enjoyed.
Last night, we began a new tradition- TPS Staff Appreciation.
As we approached the one year anniversary of the passing of Mr. Lawrence, we looked for ways to honor his legacy. JL’s dedication to students both in and out of the pool was one inspiration for this special meet. There was no better way to honor Jim and his dedication to teaching, students and community than to honor staff that the swimmers recognized as making a difference in their lives.
Last week, the team sat down and wrote out “Thank You Caps” as special invitations. Without jerseys to give teachers to wear, these served as our token of appreciation.
At the meet, staff was honored and helped cheer the Trojans to a victory over the Wayne Memorial Zebras. This meet was special to us too because Wayne Memorial is where Jim Lawrence taught as a special education teacher. The current head coach of Wayne was also coached by Jim when he was young, so the rich legacy of Jim lives on through both of these programs.
It was an honor it to recognize many of the great staff of Trenton Public Schools! We are so thankful for this community and those that care for our kids in and out of the classroom.
