Trojans News · Summer Workouts

Dear Parents,

I hope this message finds you safe and well.  As we prepare to open up our summer conditioning, I wanted to inform you of the policies we will be using at this time.  This Monday, June 22nd, some teams will begin their voluntary summer workouts.  Here are the expectations:

Student athletes are asked to park or be dropped off in the Student Parking Lot off of Charlton.  Football will be utilizing Arthurs Middle School as well, and those students should be dropped off in the Teachers Parking Lot at Arthurs.

Students and coaches will begin every practice/workout by first completing the pre-workout THS Covid-19 Athlete/Coach Monitoring Google Form.  Each coach has a unique QR-Code for their respective sport.  Students and coaches will sign into the Google Form once they arrive at practice, and coaches will take digital temperatures of each person participating to help ensure no one is running a fever.  This process should be done maintaining a safe distance of 6 feet while waiting in line to complete the survey.  All athletes and coaches MUST complete this Google Form for summer conditioning each day prior to practice or workouts. In addition, the THS Trainer will be available for assistance as well. Below are general expectations and examples of what the QR Codes and Form look like:

The guidelines provided by the MHSAA through the CDC will be strictly followed by all coaches and teams.  Here is the plan put in place for Trenton Athletics on the THS Athletic Plan, and the modified STEP 2 protocols on the  Trenton Athletic Plan – Summer workouts – 2020.06.22. Please review these links carefully to familiarize yourself with expectations and best practices that will allow us to begin our workouts. Through support and adherence to this plan and guidelines, we will be permitted to continue these practices.

Please note:

  • All buildings are not accessible at this time, and all activities will take place outside.
  • Student-athletes must bring their own water bottles and water.  Sharing of water bottles and refilling stations at this time is not permitted.
  • Students are encouraged to shower and wash their workout clothing immediately upon returning to home.
  • Any person with positive symptoms reported should not be allowed to take part in workouts and should contact his or her primary care provider or other appropriate health-care professional.

I have met with our fall coaches in regards to opening back up.  Please contact your sport specific coach for more information.

Football – Bob Czarnecki

Volleyball – Bob Heady

Sideline Cheer – Michelle Maci

Cross Country (Boys) – Rich Lee

Cross Country (Girls) – Dave Lustig

Girls Swim & Dive – Jim DeRupa

Boys Tennis – Rich Menzel

Girls Golf – Steve Burk

Boys Soccer* We are currently searching for a new Varsity Boys Coach, as Coach Mike Hatfield recently accepted the Boys Head Soccer position at Adrian College, thus having to resign from his post as Boys Varsity Coach.  It is my hope to have a new coach in place within the next two weeks.

I would also like to remind everyone that these summer conditioning workouts are voluntary.  The fall sports season officially begins with Football on Monday, August 10th, 2020 followed by the remainder of the fall sports starting Wednesday, August 12th, 2020.

The MHSAA has made the decision to accept current physicals for the 2020-2021 season, meaning if you had a valid physical last year, you will not need to get another one for this upcoming year.  A physical signed and dated by a physician on April 15, 2019 or after is considered a current physical.  Any student not having a current physical will be required to obtain one by the first day of Fall practices (August 10, 2020).

Another reminder that there will be ongoing bond construction at the High School and Middle School throughout the summer.  Any areas fenced off are deemed inaccessible, and those areas are off limits to everyone but Bond Contractors.

I’m hopeful opening up summer workouts is a step in the right direction back to some sort of normalcy.  I will continue to update you when I have more information.  I pray that everyone is safe and well.

Yours in sport,

Mr. Trush
