It was an exciting night of JV Football in Trenton Week 2, as the JV Trojans (2-0) made a strong comeback to beat a solid South Lyon squad by a score of 20-17. The Trojans got off to a rocky start, and South Lyon was able to get on the board first on a long rushing TD. The were successful on their 2 point conversion attempt, giving them an 8-0 lead. The Lions were deep in Trenton territory again when Ty Norgren intercepted a pass to give the Trojans some hope. After a high snap, South Lyon forced a safety and took a 10-0 lead. South Lyon was marching down the field again, but Max Rickman intercepted a pass to shift momentum in favor of the home team yet again. The Trojans were able to capitalize on this drive as QB Ty Norgren connected on 2 long passes to Matt Cheetam and Jason Marshall setting them up near the goal line. Norgren was able to connect with Cheetam once again for the TD. Norgren found Zach Anderson for the 2 point conversion making the score 10-8 at halftime. In the 2nd half, Rickman came up big with another interception giving Trenton excellent field position, but another turnover stymied their opportunity. South Lyon was able to score another TD shortly after. After a successful PAT, they led 17-8. Trenton answered back on their next drive after strong running by Norgren and Dominick Calloway. Norgren found Andrew Block on a deep pass for another TD. After a failed 2 point conversion attempt, Trenton trailed South Lyon 17-14. After forcing the Lions to punt, Trenton got the ball back with around 5 minutes left in the game. They established a strong drive that got them deep in South Lyon territory. After a sack, incomplete pass and an untimely penalty, Trenton found themselves facing 4th down and 30 yards to go with the game on the line. Norgren dropped back and threw up long pass, and Joaquin Maldonado made a clutch grab to give the Trojans a first and goal at the 8 yard line. After 2 touch runs, the Trojans faced 3rd and goal from the 2. Ty Norgren powered into the end zone to give Trenton a 20-17 lead with 2:30 seconds left in the game. South Lyon tried to go deep, but Zach Anderson intercepted the pass to seal the deal for the Trojans. The offensive line had a strong second half (Mike Alexander, Nik Craft, Anthony Solano, Max Rickman, Brady Kusak, Jacob James and Josh DeChane). Josh Hall and Zane Wendland also provided big offensive plays for Trenton. Other players that contributed strong defensive performances were Craft, DeChane and Bowen Wendland. Next up for the JV Trojans will be a tough game against the Wyandotte Bears next Thursday, September 12 at Trenton High School. Game time is 6pm. Go Blue!
