In what was billed as one of the “Heavyweight Battles” of the season, Trenton (10-2-1) out-dueled Plymouth Salem (#2, D1) this past Friday night and skated away with an impressive 3-2 victory!
Ryan Stanley opened the scoring just 1:30 into the contest by sniping his first career High School goal. Brad Nemeth padded the Trojan lead with a goal just over 2 minutes later. Nick Millhorn picked up the assist. Salem cut the lead in half with a Powerplay goal with just 12 seconds remaining in the first.
Salem tied the game 5 minutes into the second by taking advantage of a 5 minute Powerplay. Just 3 minutes later, Brenden Donovan put our Trojans back on top for good by slamming the puck into Salem’s net; Bren’s first of his High School hockey career. Assists to Brad Nemeth and to Nick Millhorn.
Trenton and Salem both picked up the pace in the third. Each having prime scoring opportunities off of some furious up and down action. Both goalies each raised their level of play as well and collectively shut the door. Joey Cormier finished the game with 21 saves and came up BIG again for Trenton many times throughout the evening.
All in all, a fantastic TEAM win for our Trojans!
Trenton is scheduled to move outdoors to play Grosse Pointe North this Wednesday at 6 PM at Clark Park in Detroit. Then, move back indoors to play MIHL foe and state power – Orchard Lake St. Mary’s – this Saturday at 7:30 PM at OLSM.
