Trenton Takes Down Another State-Power #6 Jenison on Vanhovel’s Walk-Off Single

After a tough start to the day, losing 15-3 to Hudsonville, Trenton responded in a big way knocking off Division 1’s #6 team, Jenison.

With the game tied 2-2 in the B7, Zach DeChane singled to start the inning.  After a failed bunt attempt, DeChane moved up to 2nd base on a passed ball.  With 1 out, Talon Vanhovel singled to right field, scoring DeChane and leading the Trojans to a walk-off 3-2 victory.

Both teams were strong on the hill, with each team’s pitchers striking out 5 batters.

Jenison struck first on a Vince Fantin single in the T1. In the T4, Case Bosch singled to right field scoring P. Ginzer from 2nd.

Zach Hitchcock and Ashton Rooney singled to start the B4.  After a ground out advancing both runners a base, Zach DeChane doubled to center field for 2 RBI’s and tying the game at 2-2.

Caleb Kidd earned the win for Trenton. The southpaw allowed 8 hits and 2 runs over 7 innings, striking out 5 and walking 2. AJ Park took the loss for Jenison. He went 4.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, striking out 4 and walking none. Case Hennip started the game for Jenison allowing 0 hits and 0 runs over 2 innings, striking out 1 and walking none.

DeChane drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Trojans attack with 2 RBI’s and 2 hits.  Trenton didn’t commit any errors in the field. Bosch had the most chances for the Wildcats in the field with 8.

For the week, the Trojan’s took down three state-ranked opponents in D2 #6 Southgate Anderson, D1 #9 Zeeland East, and D1 #6 Jenison.
