Lauryn Holder completely stymied Woodhaven by shutting them out 8-0 on Thursday. Holder gave up only 2 hits and struck out 7 on the way to her 10th win of the season.
Ella Schumaker, Reagan Trombly and Olivia Soens led the Trojan offense with 2 hits each. Schumaker had 2 base hits and 2 RBI, Trombly doubled & singled with an RBI, as did Soens who collected a double, single and knocked in a run. Macey Ryznar, Mia Maldonado (RBI), and Xochitl Carrillo (double) smacked 1 hit each in the game. Schumaker, Maldonado, Holder and Areanna Rogalski each laid down perfect sacrifice bunts.
Defensive play of the game was a major-league-quality 4-6-3 double play pulled off in the bottom of the sixth. Schumaker grabbed a hard grounder at 2nd, perfectly flipped to Maldonado who tagged 2b and then fired a rocket over to a stretching Soens at first. Runner-up play of the game was the perfect execution of a rundown between 2nd and 3rd. Started by Carrillo who snagged a hard ground ball at 3rd, and caught a Warrior runner too far off 2nd base. The rundown went back-and forth for a bit until Maldonado eventually chased the runner down and tagged her out.
The 26-2 Trojans travel to Carleton Airport on Saturday for a 3-game round-robin. Opponents are Airport, NB Huron and Walled Lake Northern. Game times are 9-11-1. GO TROJANS!
