Offense Hard to Come By in Trenton’s Loss to Allen Park, 3-1
Both teams were strong on the hill on Wednesday, but Allen Park caught a few more breaks in their 3-1 victory over Trenton. Joel Mator started the game for Trenton and recorded all 18 outs.
Allen Park got on the board in the B3 when Cam Johnson’s double scored a run. Allen Park was able to string together 3 of their 4 hits in the 3rd.
In the B4, Trenton centerfielder Zach Hitchcock made a running attempt into right centerfield to catch a pop-up off Matellic’s bat. The ball popped out of Hitchcock’s glove allowing Doyle to score. A catch would have been a double play, as Allen Park was running on the pitch. The play itself was a remarkable effort by Hitchcock! Allen Park was able to score another run on a passed ball.
Jacob Stickler earned the win for Allen Park. The right-hander surrendered 4 hits and one run over 7 innings, striking out 8 and walking none. Mator took the loss for Trenton. Both of Mator’s losses this year have been at the hands of Allen Park. The southpaw went 6 innings, surrendering 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, striking out 5 and walking 2.
Braylon Orsette, Jack Labiak, Gavin Bolley, and Johnson each collected a hit for the Jaguars. Johnson went 1 for 3 at the plate with 1 RBI. Allen Park committed no errors in the field. Labiak had the most chances in the field with 11.
The win gave Allen Park a share of the Downriver League Title with Southgate Anderson. The loss dropped Trenton into 2nd place with a final DRL record of 12-4.
