Late Score Costs Trenton After Late Charge from AA Father Gabriel Richard
Saturday’s game against AA Father Gabriel Richard was a heartbreaker for Trenton, as they lost the lead late In a 3-2 defeat. The game was tied at 2 in the T6 when Jacob Hamming doubled, scoring one run.
Trenton lost despite out-hitting AAFGR 5 to 3. Ashton Rooney, Josh Pippin, Zach DeChane, Caleb Kidd, and Zack Hitchcock each collected a hit for the Trojans.
A ground out by Caleb Renfer put AAFGR on the board in the T1.
Rooney singled, which helped Trenton tie the game in the B1.
A single by James Keyes gave AAFGR the lead at 2-1, in the T4.
Ryan Heneseler earned the win for AAFGR. The reliever gave up 2 hits and 0 runs over 2 innings, striking out 0 and walking 1. The lefty went 5.2 innings, giving up 3 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, striking out 6 and walking 6. Luke Pafaffenbach started on the hill for the Fighting Irish, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs over 3.2 innings, striking out 1 and walking 4.
Rooney and Pippin each drove in runs for Trenton.
Trenton had multiple opportunities to take control of the game. A botched suicide squeeze in the B4 kept a run off the board. The run would’ve tied the game at 2-2. In the B5, a Trenton runner was called out after scoring, with the umpire ruling the runner missed 3rd base on a popup slide. This would’ve given Trenton a 3-2 lead with no outs!
