This past weekend, the cross country team competed in the Downriver GR Invite at Patriots Park where teams from the Downriver League and surrounding area went head to head to compete for All-Area titles. This race has historically been dreary and muddy, but this year the conditions were excellent, resulting in another success for the team.

 

The boys were led by senior Owen Hassett who continually moved up in position throughout the race, crossing the finish line in 14th place and earning himself a medal. Finishing about 30 seconds later was Gavin Diroff who broke 19 minutes for the first team and finished in a well earned 25th place to take the last medal of the boys race. The whole varsity squad had a strong performance with each running their season best; in the reserve race, all came within just a few seconds of their own personal bests.

 

The girls were led by senior Marisa Chuey who came through the first mile in first place, widened the gap as the race went on, and crossed the finish line as the meet champion. Devyn Dorey and Jamie Glatfelter worked as a unit throughout the race to outrun their competitors, resulting in 5th and 6th place finishes. Two more runners, Avalina Williamson and Audrey Fallone-Gerou also placed in the top 25 to earn medals. The varsity team wouldn't be complete without Isabel Natividad and Brooke Cunningham; the whole team's efforts landed them in first place overall, and the team got to raise the gold trophy. Greta Edge, our sole representative in the reserve race also earned a medal by finishing in the top 10 and with a new PR.
