Varsity Hockey Scrimmage vs Brighton 11/9/24
On Saturday night, the Trojans were in action for the first time this season as they scrimmaged Brighton for their only scrimmage of the season. This was a good opening test for the Trojans who added 11 new players to their roster.
In the first period, the Trojans were on their heels, as the Bulldogs carried most of the play. The Trojans slowly evened things out as their speed increased. It was Senior Landon Stark that opened up the scoring on a beautiful dish from Sophomore Brett Allen. Later in the first, Senior Seth Ling threw a puck to the net that Junior Jack Brownlie put into the back of the net. Senior Evan Sivi was tested often, but turned away every shot that he faced.
In the second period, the Bulldogs got off to a quick start and scored two quick goals on netminder Senior Isaac Anderson. The Trojans battled back as Junior Ty Popowicz scored to give the Trojans momentum. A few minutes later it was Junior Donovan Durbin who found a loose puck off a Nathan Sparks draw and chipped it into the net evening the score in the second period. Anderson settled down in net and Senior Brennan Toth finished the last few minutes of the second to keep the score at 2-2.
The third period was controlled powerplays and penalty kills as both teams looked to practice their special teams. The Trojans scored on 1 of 6 powerplays. The lone goal came off the stick of Junior Zach LaMay. The Trojan penalty kill looked good at times as many players got the opportunity to gain experience. In the end, each team sent 5 players to compete in a shoot-out. The Trojan goalies were perfect in net as they turned away all 5 of the Brighton attempts. The lone goal for the Trojans was off the stick of Junior Gabe Polyviou.
All in all, it was a great tune up game for the Trojans as they look to learn from this experience as they start their regular season next week. The Trojans open with two home games this week, as they host Hartland on Friday November 15 at 7:30 pm and Cranbrook on Saturday November 16 at 7:30 pm. Both games will be held at the Kennedy Recreation Center.
