On Thursday Nov 21, 2024, the Trojans traveled to Oak Park to take on long-time rival, Brother Rice. It was the Trojans first away game of the season. The Trojans were looking to get their first win of the season after their first two games of the season went into overtime.
In the first period, Brother Rice came out flying and put the Trojans back on their heels. The Trojans struggled in their defensive zone, but Senior netminder, Evan Sivi, played tough and kept the Warriors off of the board. The Trojans did have a few scoring chances in the period but could not find the back of the net.
In the second period, the Warriors banged in a rebound goal to take the lead 1-0. The Trojans battled back. It was Nathan Sparks who took the puck into the corner and waited, waited, and waited until he found a streaking Donovan Durbin in front to score his 1st goal of the season. A few minutes later, the Warriors took the puck up the wing, beat the Trojan defenseman and scored on a nice shot that went bar down. The Trojans however were not done. Again, they came back as Senior Nathan Sparks scored a short-handed goal to tie the game at 2.
In the third, the goalies from both teams turned away shot after shot. No goals were scored in the third period and the Trojans were again headed to Overtime for their third straight game.
The Trojans battled in overtime and had two great scoring chances but could not find a way to get the puck past the Brother Rice goalie. Sivi stood tall for the Trojans in the overtime period as the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Sivi earned the tie as Durbin and Sparks each tallied goals. The Trojans are 0-1-2 on the season and won't play until next week. The Trojans play DeLaSalle on Wednesday night at home at 7:30 pm in their annual day-before-Thanksgiving game and travel on Saturday to Lakeland for an 8:15 pm game.
